About In Memory of John A. Chambliss

What we now know as "Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center" began as an idea in the mind of a local Chattanooga lawyer, John Alexander Chambliss. With his wife Margaret and the close collaboration of Marie and Harold Humphries, he created this place and called it a "Riding," the 18th-century term for a landscape that unfolds with a progression of views as one rides through on horseback or by horse-drawn carriage. Today over 16,000 school-age children and many thousands of adult visitors each year and the arboretum and nature center continues the Chambliss vision into the 21st century. Please join us in our mission to reconnect Chattanoogans with nature.
